Don’t Dress For Dinner

The Ritz Theater in Sanford will be holding auditions for Don’t Dress for Dinner, which opens to the public March 4, 2022. Directed by Doug Carey, auditions will be held Tuesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 18 at 7pm to 8:30pm at the Ritz Theater Annex at 201 S. Magnolia Avenue, Sanford. This boulevard comedy was a smash hit in Paris, where it played for two years, and in London, where it ran for six years at the Apollo and Duchess Theatres.


Roles (adults 18 and over) for this romantic comedy production are: Bernard (Paris husband), Jacqueline (His wife), Robert (His friend), Suzanne (His mistress), Suzette (A cook) and George (Her Husband). [Click Here] for character descriptions.

During the auditions, actors will be asked to complete a rehearsal application and read from the script. A one-minute monologue is optional. Accents are not required for this production. Attendance at both days is suggested by not required.


Friday, November 19 will be for callbacks, if needed. Please note that there will be health safeguards in place for the audition process. We ask that all actors to come to the theater with their own mask. All auditions will be conducted individually. All roles are open. When you attend auditions, a list of rehearsal dates will be available and you will be asked to advise of any conflicts. Please be aware that some casting decisions may be based in part on actor availability.


Show description: A dinner takes place in a French farmhouse about a two-hour drive from Paris. Suppose Bernard is hoping to send his wife, Jacqueline, out of town to romance his mistress, Suzanne, a model. Suppose Bernard hires a Cordon Bleu cook, Suzette. Supposed he invites his friend Robert to dinner as an alibi. Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers. Suppose Jacqueline will NOT leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress the cook. Suppose everyone's alibi gets confused …


Performance dates for Don’t Dress for Dinner are: March 4, 5, 11, 12 at 7:30pm and matinee performances on March 6 and 13 at 3pm and March 12 at 2pm.


This Samuel French production, written by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon, is produced for the Ritz Theater by Teri Siciliano and executive produced by Steve Nelson.
